This trip was all about slowing down, staying coastal, and bringing a 70-pound shepherd mix along for the adventure.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udf0a<\/strong><strong> Arrival Day: Arizona to Ocean Beach<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>We left Arizona around 8am and reached San Diego by about 2pm. Too early to check into our Airbnb right on Ocean Beach, so we made the first stop count.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udf7d\ufe0f<\/strong><strong> Lunch with a Patio View<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>We headed straight to Raglan Public House for lunch. The dog-friendly patio made it the perfect first stop after a long drive\u2014laid-back, beachy, and full of good energy. Burgers, cold drinks, and a tired but happy dog at our feet set the tone for the trip.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udfd6\ufe0f<\/strong><strong> Afternoon: Ocean Beach Dog Park<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>After checking into our Airbnb right on the coast, the rest of the afternoon belonged to the beach. Ocean Beach Dog Beach is one of those rare places where dogs can just be dogs\u2014running free, chasing waves, and making friends in the surf.<\/p>\n\n<p>Golden hour there feels unreal.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\u2615<\/strong><strong> Day Two: Little Italy Farmers Market Morning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-117\" src=\"https:\/\/desertweekends.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-113\" src=\"https:\/\/desertweekends.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Wednesday morning started in Little Italy at the farmers market. Coffee in hand, we wandered through fresh pastries, local vendors, and small bites\u2014perfect slow travel energy.<\/p>\n\n<p>Little Italy Farmers Market is one of the best ways to start a day in the city if you like good food and people-watching.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udef6<\/strong><strong> Afternoon Adventure: Kayaking with a Shepherd Mix<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-118\" src=\"https:\/\/desertweekends.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>One of the highlights of the trip was kayaking with our 70-pound shepherd mix\u2014calm waters, sunshine, and surprisingly smooth paddling. It cost about $25 for 90 minutes, and it was worth every minute.<\/p>\n\n<p>Gliding across the water with a dog leaning over the side, watching fish and paddle splashes, is one of those \u201cyou\u2019ll remember this forever\u201d moments.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udf7b<\/strong><strong> Evening: Coronado Island Dinner + Drinks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-119\" src=\"https:\/\/desertweekends.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-7.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-121\" src=\"https:\/\/desertweekends.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-8-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>As the sun started to drop, we drove over to Coronado Island for dinner and drinks at Coronado Brewing Company.<\/p>\n\n<p>The dog-friendly patio, coastal breeze, and easy vibe made it the perfect way to end the day. It\u2019s the kind of spot where breakfast feels unhurried, the staff is genuinely welcoming, and dogs are part of the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n<p>Then it was time to turn the car back toward Arizona\u2014but with sandy paws, full stomachs, and a very tired pup.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udc36<\/strong><strong> Final Thoughts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>San Diego is one of those rare places where every part of a trip\u2014food, beach time, and even transportation\u2014feels naturally dog-friendly.
