š¾ 2 Days in San Diego with a Dog ā Ocean Views, Kayaks & Coastal Eats
Thereās something special about rolling into San Diego after a desert drive from Arizonaāocean air, palm trees, and instantly dog-friendly energy everywhere you go. This trip was all about slowing down, staying coastal, and bringing a 70-pound shepherd mix along for the adventure.
š Arrival Day: Arizona to Ocean Beach
We left Arizona around 8am and reached San Diego by about 2pm. Too early to check into our Airbnb right on Ocean Beach, so we made the first stop count.
š½ļø Lunch with a Patio View
We headed straight to Raglan Public House for lunch. The dog-friendly patio made it the perfect first stop after a long driveālaid-back, beachy, and full of good energy. Burgers, cold drinks, and a tired but happy dog at our feet set the tone for the trip.
šļø Afternoon: Ocean Beach Dog Park
After checking into our Airbnb right on the coast, the rest of the afternoon belonged to the beach. Ocean Beach Dog Beach is one of those rare places where dogs can just be dogsārunning free, chasing waves, and making friends in the surf.
Golden hour there feels unreal.
ā Day Two: Little Italy Farmers Market Morning

Wednesday morning started in Little Italy at the farmers market. Coffee in hand, we wandered through fresh pastries, local vendors, and small bitesāperfect slow travel energy.
Little Italy Farmers Market is one of the best ways to start a day in the city if you like good food and people-watching.
š¶ Afternoon Adventure: Kayaking with a Shepherd Mix

One of the highlights of the trip was kayaking with our 70-pound shepherd mixācalm waters, sunshine, and surprisingly smooth paddling. It cost about $25 for 90 minutes, and it was worth every minute.
Gliding across the water with a dog leaning over the side, watching fish and paddle splashes, is one of those āyouāll remember this foreverā moments.
š» Evening: Coronado Island Dinner + Drinks

As the sun started to drop, we drove over to Coronado Island for dinner and drinks at Coronado Brewing Company.
The dog-friendly patio, coastal breeze, and easy vibe made it the perfect way to end the day. The drive across the bridge alone feels like a reset button.
āļø Final Morning: Ocean Beach Farewell

Before heading home, we checked out of the Airbnb and grabbed breakfast at OB Surf Lodge. Itās the kind of spot where breakfast feels unhurried, the staff is genuinely welcoming, and dogs are part of the atmosphere.
Then it was time to turn the car back toward Arizonaābut with sandy paws, full stomachs, and a very tired pup.
š¶ Final Thoughts
San Diego is one of those rare places where every part of a tripāfood, beach time, and even transportationāfeels naturally dog-friendly. From Ocean Beach to Coronado, everything flows at a slower, coastal pace that makes you want to stay longer.
